Whenever Valentine’s Day comes around, some people love it and others treat it as “singles awareness day.” But the fact is that this time around a lot of people will be staying home by themselves and away from loved ones. While you may not be able to go out or spend time with the people you care about this year, it doesn’t mean that you can’t take time to show yourself some love. Here are a few ways how.
Get rid of toxic thoughts.
Don’t let them creep into your mind! Instead, proactively think of positive affirmations you can say to yourself. Think of your accomplishments in the past year and think of what you want to achieve next. Also, stop comparing yourself to others; there’s only one you, and you’re awesome.
Turn on “Do Not Disturb.”
Unplugging for a day can help you clear your mind and feel more refreshed. Take a break from the texts, emails, and social media. You’re not missing out on anything.
Get outside for a breath of fresh air.
There’s no reason to stay cooped up all day! Go outside for a walk, run, or even just to sit on the porch or in the backyard. Some fresh air and sunlight will do wonders for your mood.
Do something you enjoy doing.
It’s your day, so do what you want! Want to finish a book you started? Go for it. Is there a TV show you need to finish? Grab some snacks and get comfy. Showing yourself love can mean taking the day to rest and entertain yourself.
Fix yourself a nice meal.
Just because you’re eating alone doesn’t mean you can’t eat well. Prepare one of your favorite dishes or try following a new recipe. If cooking isn’t your thing, you can always have something delivered. Just make sure it’s delicious—because you’re worth it.
Treat yourself for a day.
It doesn’t hurt to indulge yourself every once in a while. Put on a face mask. Paint your nails. Pour yourself a drink. Have your favorite dessert after dinner. Run a long, hot bath. You have plenty of options.
Whatever you choose to do this year, show yourself a little love every day—you deserve it!
