The holidays are here, and that means large amounts of delicious, sweet, and savory dishes to indulge in. While this year looks different than past years, the food alone is enough to get excited about. But with all the excitement and the abundance of food and flavors, most of us tend to overeat. While it’s often hard to move after a heavy meal, this easy yoga stretch can help relieve the body, restore comfort, and aid in digestion.
Yoga is an incredible way to detoxify the body and ease those “food coma” feelings after eating a lot. But you don’t need to do a whole class or even a series of multiple poses to aid digestion and get ready for dessert. All you need is this one stretch: Supported Seated Forward Fold. Forward folds support circulation through the abdominal organs and can stimulate digestion and metabolism.
How to do Supported Seated Forward Fold
Take a seat on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you. Use a bolster, pillow, or roll up a towel to place on top of your thighs. The firmer the pillow, the better to support a stomach massage. Flex your toes back towards your face. Fold your torso over the bolster/pillow/towel and take deep breaths into the belly and lower abdomen. Hold here for as many breaths as you need to feel relief.
That’s it! Simple, but effective. Happy digestion!
