We have a fantastic array of protein options at Shaklee, so I thought I would help everyone understand some of the key differences so you can use the right product for you. We have meal replacements that are perfect for weight loss† as well as supplementing your healthy diet. We have our sports products and our classic protein supplements like Instant Soy Protein Mix that are perfect for baking. And we have different types of proteins: soy, plant, and whey! So many choices!
Let’s start with our biggest category: Healthy Meal Replacements, also known as Life Shake™. We now have what I believe is our best shake ever! 20 grams of non-GMO protein, vegan, gluten-free, low-glycemic with 6 grams of prebiotic fiber, and perfectly sweetened with 5 grams of sugar and Reb M. We have two protein options, soy and “plant” that is primarily pea protein with a little pumpkin seed and chia protein. Both options are complete sources of protein and contain added leucine to deliver the same amount of leucine per serving. Soy naturally contains a higher amount of total branched-chain amino acids than pea, but the leucine content is the same between the shake formulas.
And if that’s not enough, we also have Shaklee 180® Energizing Smoothee Mix (Whey) as an option. This formula contains 16 grams of non-GMO whey protein. Although it has 16 grams of sugar, it is low-glycemic with 5 grams of fiber and may be an option for folks who don’t like the nutty flavors of plant-based proteins. It is stevia-free for those looking for that.
Which protein should you choose? It really comes down to taste, favorite flavors, and what you like to mix it in. We have four flavors of soy, two of plant, and one whey option. Digestive tolerability varies with individuals, so if you have some digestive symptoms like gassiness or bowel changes with one or the other version, have them try a plant option if they were initially using Life Shake Soy, for instance.
These are quite different and intended for different purposes. Physique + Bio-Build is our classic sports protein shake designed to support endurance activities, such as high-octane sports like basketball and tennis, and clinically proven to deliver more energy to your muscles than either carbohydrates or protein alone. If you are working out intensely for an hour or more, you are depleting your muscle glycogen stores, so this is your preferred recovery shake and ideally should be consumed within an hour after completing your workout.
If you are doing more moderate activities or looking to build muscle*, our Advanced Physique 100% Grass-Fed Whey Protein is your best choice. This is pure whey protein with a tiny amount of fat and carbohydrates (2 and 3 grams, respectively). Two scoops deliver 20 grams of protein with 3 grams of leucine. It comes in Vanilla and Chocolate and is lightly sweetened with stevia.
To round out our offerings, we have Energizing Soy Protein and Instant Soy Protein Mix (ISPM). ISPM is pure soy protein with no sugar or other sweeteners—16 grams of soy protein and 80 calories—and is a Dr. Shaklee Classic Formula. It’s perfect for adding protein to muffins, soup, sauces, or whatever else your imagination brings! Energizing Soy Protein comes in Natural Vanilla and Creamy Cocoa and delivers 14 grams of protein, with 8 or 9 grams of added sugar. It contains B vitamins and 500 mg calcium so is best used as a protein-rich pick-me-up snack. Some folks use it to add protein to their Life Shakes in lieu of soy milk or almond milk.
